On the night of June 10, 2025, Moscow and the Moscow region were subjected to a massive attack by Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which led to the introduction of the "Carpet" plan at the largest airports in the region - Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Zhukovsky and Sheremetyevo. The air harbors temporarily suspended the reception and departure of flights to ensure flight safety.
According to the Telegram channel "SHOT", the attack began around midnight, when dozens of UAVs, presumably launched from Ukraine, were spotted in the skies over the Moscow region. As a result, three flights heading to the capital were redirected to alternate airfields in other regions. The plane flying from Moscow to Sochi was forced to circle around the city, waiting for the restrictions to be lifted. Residents of Ramenskoye, Misailovo and Naro-Fominsk reported loud explosions caused by the air defense system.
The Carpet plan, introduced at airports, provides for a complete cessation of flights in the event of a threat from unidentified objects, including UAVs.
Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian regions have increased in 2025. According to Reuters, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are using long-range UAVs, such as the UJ-22 Airborne, which can fly up to 800 km, to strike infrastructure and military facilities.
