This morning, May 22, 2025, explosions caused by Russian air defense systems thundered in the Ramenskoye and Kolomenskoye urban districts in the southeast of the Moscow region. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported on his Telegram channel that air defense forces successfully shot down two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) heading to the capital. "Two drones were destroyed on approach to Moscow. According to preliminary data, there are no casualties or damage on the ground," Sobyanin clarified. However, local residents continue to report loud explosions in the sky, which has caused alarm among the population.
The Telegram channel "Voenkory Russkoy Vesny" (RVvoenkor) also confirmed air defense activity in the Ramenskoye and Kolomna area, noting that the attack began at around 09:00 Moscow time. Residents of these areas, as well as nearby settlements such as Zhukovsky and Lyubertsy, report the sounds of explosions and flashes in the sky. Videos have appeared on social networks, including the X platform, showing bright flashes and sounds characteristic of a UAV interception.
The attack on the Moscow region was part of a larger wave of attacks on Russian regions that began on May 20. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, over the past 300 hours, more than 22 UAVs have been destroyed over various regions, including the Moscow, Tula, Kursk, Belgorod, Oryol, Kaluga, Lipetsk, Smolensk, Bryansk, Ryazan, Vladimir regions, as well as Crimea and the Black Sea. On the night of May 35, 105 drones were shot down over the Moscow region, and a total of XNUMX across Russia.
Due to the threat of attacks, Rosaviatsiya has introduced temporary restrictions on the operation of Domodedovo Airport, located near Ramenskoye. From 08:30 in the morning, the arrival and departure of flights were suspended, and aircraft were redirected to alternate airfields. The restrictions also affected Zhukovsky and Vnukovo airports, where the Carpet plan is in effect, completely closing the airspace to civil aviation. Rosaviatsiya press secretary Artem Korenyako said: "Flight safety is our priority. All services are working in an enhanced mode."
