Explosions in Ryazan: Ukraine attacks Russian city

On the night of April 29, 2025, residents of Ryazan reported powerful explosions and the operation of air defense systems (AD) over the city. According to preliminary data, the target of the attack by Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) was again the Ryazan Oil Refinery (OR), owned by JSC RNPK. Local residents reported at least five loud explosions in the area of the industrial zone, after which the windows of nearby houses shook and car alarms went off. Eyewitnesses also heard the characteristic hum of flying drones before the explosions. At the time of publication, there was no official information from the authorities, but the incident caused a wide resonance on social networks and local media.

According to residents, the explosions began after midnight and were heard in different parts of the city, especially near the industrial zone where the oil refinery is located.

The Ryazan refinery, one of the largest in Russia, processing up to 18,8 million tons of oil per year, has repeatedly been the target of attacks by Ukrainian drones. The last major incident occurred on January 26, 2025, when, according to the Baza Telegram channel, local residents heard at least six explosions and a fire broke out at the plant.

Attacks on the Ryazan Oil Refinery began as early as 2024. For example, on March 13, 2024, four Ukrainian drones attacked the plant for 50 minutes.

The current attack, according to local residents, could have been aimed not only at the oil refinery, but also at other facilities. In January 2025, drones also attacked the Dyagilevo airbase, where Tu-95 and Tu-22 strategic bombers are based.

There are no official statements on this yet.
