Tehran Explosions: Israel Attacks Iranian Defense Ministry Headquarters

On June 15, 2025, Tehran was rocked by a new Israeli air strike targeting the headquarters of the Iranian Defense Ministry. According to the Iranian Tasnim news agency, the attack damaged an administrative building in the Nobaniad district and also damaged the Defense Research and Innovation Organization (SPND), which is linked to the nuclear program. The strike was part of a larger Israeli operation called "Yahweh's Thunder," launched in response to a series of Iranian missile attacks on Tel Aviv and Haifa that killed five people and wounded more than 200.

According to Reuters, the Israeli Air Force used precision missiles and drones to strike more than 150 targets in Iran, including IRGC depots and military airfields. The IDF said the attack was aimed at “undermining Iran’s nuclear ambitions” and destroying infrastructure related to ballistic missile production. Iranian authorities, however, claim that damage was “minimal” and that their air defense systems intercepted most of the missiles. However, footage from the scene published on the Telegram channel Haqqin.az shows smoke over Tehran and destruction in the area of the Defense Ministry.

Iran responded to the attack with a new wave of missile strikes on Israel. According to the Times of Israel, about 100 rockets, including Emad and Khyber Shakan, were fired at Tel Aviv, Haifa and Jerusalem. A woman was killed in Bat Yam, and homes were damaged in Rehovot. Israeli air defenses intercepted about 70% of the rockets, but the destruction sparked protests against the Netanyahu government, which is accused of failing to protect the population.
