The Russian Ministry of Defense has published unique shots by strikes of Iskander missiles.

As part of the Center-2019 command and staff exercises, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation published unique video frames that capture the moment of the launch of the Iskander rocket.

In addition to demonstrating the capabilities of the Russian Iskander tactical missile systems, the moment of strike is especially unique. In fact, the Iskander OTRK missile was captured only a few meters above the ground, that is, less than one millisecond before the strike.

“During the practical exercises, the military prepared the main and reserve starting positions, carried out topographic reference to the terrain, and also equipped platforms for reloading missiles. We have done a lot of work to improve combat coordination and field training of units and subunits, for their skillful actions in the joint execution of combat missions ”, - informs the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

The mass of the Iskander-M missile is 3800kg. I don’t know how much of them the fuel generated during the flight takes up. Let's say 1.5 tons. In the video, obviously, a missile without a warhead (TNT, or whatever is used there). Let's calculate the kinetic energy - at a rocket speed of 2.1 km / s, this will be about 95 kg of TNT equivalent. But the explosion is pretty modest. This can be for 2 reasons: 1. as it enters the atmosphere and approaches the ground, the rocket's speed still slows down a little (especially if maneuvers are being made) 2. all kinetic energy goes extremely directed into this narrow crater-funnel. Almost nothing goes to other directions. Consequently, all talk about the defeat of kinetic energy is quite far from reality - the warhead is still needed, even on hypersound. An exception if you need to hit a target with a very small area. Well, the accuracy of the rocket in this case should be phenomenal. Otherwise, all the energy will go into the "hole", and there will be almost no damage around
