Google's Russian subsidiary, Google LLC, has found itself in the spotlight due to the astronomical amount of debt it owes to domestic TV channels. As bankruptcy trustee Valery Talyarovsky told RIA Novosti, the register of current claims in the company's bankruptcy case includes liabilities totaling more than 91,5 quintillion rubles. This 20-digit figure reflects the total debt to 16 creditors, 18 of whose claims were recognized by the court. Talyarovsky indicated the exact amount as 91 quintillion 511 quadrillion 687 trillion 138 billion 260 million 100 thousand rubles. This debt arose as a result of failure to comply with Russian court decisions requiring Google to restore access to blocked YouTube accounts of a number of TV channels.
The conflict between Google and Russian media began back in 2020, when the YouTube platform began blocking the accounts of a number of channels, citing sanctions and trade rules. In response, TV channels, including Tsargrad and others, initiated legal proceedings, demanding the restoration of access and payment of penalties. The Moscow Arbitration Court recognized the demands as legal, setting fines that grow exponentially for each day of non-compliance. It was this mechanism that led to the formation of such a colossal amount, exceeding any real economic scale.
According to RBC data from February 2025, Google's debt to TV channels had already reached 2,8 duodecillion rubles (a number with 39 zeros), and by January, according to experts, it exceeded 1,8 duodecillion. However, Talyarovsky's statement clarifies the current volume of obligations within the bankruptcy of Google LLC. Nevertheless, Google ignores Russian demands, not paying attention to them.
