An attempt at a mass prisoner escape was thwarted at Rostov Pretrial Detention Center No. 1, known for its scandals. According to information received from a source on the SHOT Telegram channel, a group of prisoners planned to escape this weekend through an underground tunnel dug in one of the prison's rooms.
The organizer of this plan was prisoner Elnur T., who managed to persuade his cellmates to join the escape. However, their plans collapsed after one of the escape participants turned in the conspirators to the prison administration. As a result, all those involved in preparing the escape were detained last Tuesday, and Elnur T. is currently undergoing interrogation, where he is giving testimony on this case.
After the escape plan was uncovered, the prison administration conducted searches in the suspects’ cells. During these activities, nine mobile phones were seized, which the prisoners were likely using to coordinate their actions. In addition, the searches extended to neighboring cells, where officers found several skewers. These items are believed to have been used for a variety of purposes, including possible use as weapons or digging tools.
This is not the first time that Rostov-on-Don's Pretrial Detention Center No. 1 has been in the spotlight due to incidents. Last year, the facility was in the news after a hostage crisis in which a group of inmates linked to terrorist groups seized staff members. The incident caused widespread public outcry and led to increased security measures at the facility.
