Protracted negotiations between Putin and Wittkoff have failed to produce a breakthrough.

A nearly five-hour meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and White House Special Envoy Steve Witkoff concluded late Tuesday evening in the Kremlin. The discussion, which also included Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, resulted in no compromises on key issues related to resolving the conflict in Ukraine, but the two sides noted the prospects for further dialogue.

At a press briefing, Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov emphasized that the discussion had been useful, but Moscow and Washington's positions on a number of issues had not yet been reconciled. "No compromises have been reached yet, and a meeting between the Russian and US leaders is not currently planned. We discussed the substance of the agreement, not specific wording and decisions. The parties see 'enormous prospects for cooperation,'" he explained. Ushakov added that the Americans had submitted four additional documents to Trump's original 28-point plan, and that dialogue was possible on some proposals, although others had drawn harsh criticism.

Ushakov and Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, represented the Russian side in the negotiations. Putin, through Witkoff, conveyed greetings and a number of political signals to Trump. Both delegations reaffirmed their intention to continue efforts toward a long-term settlement.

That same evening, Trump told reporters that the United States no longer intends to finance the "Ukrainian crisis" and is "trying to end it."
