Ukraine News, December 9, 2025, Avia.pro. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has rejected accusations that the lack of elections in the country is due to his personal desire to cling to power, and confirmed his readiness to hold them in the coming months, provided security is ensured.
Speaking about the reaction to statements from American partners, Zelenskyy emphasized that the election issue remains an internal matter for Ukraine.
"The idea that elections aren't being held in Ukraine because I'm clinging to the presidential seat is completely unreasonable. I'm ready for the elections." - he said.
According to the president, two key aspects must be addressed to organize the vote: security and the legal framework. He asked members of the Verkhovna Rada to develop proposals to amend the election law during martial law to ensure its legitimacy. Furthermore, Zelenskyy publicly asked the United States and European allies to help create conditions for a safe campaign. "I ask you to help me, perhaps together with my European colleagues, ensure security for the elections, and then within the next 60-90 days, Ukraine will be ready to hold the elections," he noted.
In the context of peace negotiations, the president mentioned three key documents currently being discussed with the American and European sides: a 20-point framework plan, a draft on security guarantees, and a plan for Ukraine's post-war reconstruction. These documents, he said, are being regularly updated to take into account new circumstances.
