On the night of May 15, 2026, Russian Ministry of Defense air defense assets destroyed three unmanned aerial vehicles heading toward Moscow. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced this on his messenger channel.
"The Ministry of Defense's air defense forces destroyed three UAVs en route to Moscow. Emergency services are working at the crash site.", Sobyanin wrote.
There are no reports of casualties or damage on the ground at this time.
Following the destruction of the drones, Rosaviatsiya imposed temporary restrictions on the operation of Moscow's two largest airports.
"Temporary restrictions on the entry and exit of aircraft have been introduced. These restrictions are necessary to ensure flight safety." - said the agency.
Initially, partial restrictions were imposed at Vnukovo Airport, where the airport continued to accept and dispatch flights only with the approval of the relevant authorities. Similar measures were later extended to Domodedovo Airport. According to preliminary reports, the restrictions are related to the threat of further drone attacks. If necessary, a "Carpet" regime will be implemented, requiring the immediate landing of all aircraft outside airports.
