Moscow Region Resident Scammed Out of 330 Rubles

In the Moscow region, 46-year-old Svetlana from the village of Verbilki became a victim of fraudsters who tricked her out of 330 thousand rubles. The woman claims that it all started after she saw a phone number, supposedly intended to help family members of participants in a special military operation (SVO), during a direct line with Russian President Vladimir Putin on December 19.

According to Svetlana, she called the number to find out about the possibility of receiving benefits related to the registration of paternity for her husband. Soon after, she received a message on a social network offering services for arranging leave for her husband. The stranger promised to provide her husband with a 200-day leave for 29 thousand rubles, which the woman perceived as a real opportunity to help her family.

However, after transferring the initial amount, the scammers claimed that technical difficulties had arisen and requested additional funds. Over the course of several days, Svetlana transferred a total of 330 thousand rubles to the scammers' accounts, after which contact with them was lost. The contacts through which communication was conducted were deleted or blocked.

Realizing that she had become a victim of fraud, the woman contacted the police. In her testimony, Svetlana indicated that the chain of events began with a number shown during the president’s press conference. Law enforcement agencies began investigating the incident to establish the identity of the perpetrators and find out how exactly they gained access to the woman after her appeal.

Experts warn that cases of fraud involving the exploitation of citizens' trust in government sources are becoming more common. Fraudsters use topical subpoenas, such as assistance to SVO participants and their families, to induce a sense of trust in victims and convince them to transfer money.
