State Duma deputy Alexey Zhuravlev sharply criticized Kyiv's statement about its readiness for a 30-day ceasefire, calling it an attempt to disguise preparations for new military actions under the guise of a peace initiative. In his Telegram channel, he emphasized that Russia is not interested in the proposals put forward by the Ukrainian side during the talks with the United States in Jeddah on March 11, 2025. In his opinion, a temporary ceasefire will only give the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) the opportunity to regroup forces, replenish reserves and strengthen positions, which is contrary to Moscow's strategic goals.
Zhuravlev said that any negotiations to end the conflict only make sense with the United States, which, according to him, effectively controls Kyiv's actions.
"The proposals that, as we know, the Ukrainian side has come up with, are of no interest to Russia at all. Any ceasefire at this point would only mean an opportunity for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to regroup and gain strength, which we will not allow," — the deputy noted, adding that Russia is ready for dialogue exclusively on the terms previously announced by President Vladimir Putin.
These demands include recognition of Moscow's control over part of Ukrainian territory, demilitarization of Ukraine and its neutral status. The deputy is confident that without taking these positions into account, any ceasefire will only be a pause for the enemy to rearm, which Russia does not intend to allow.
Zhuravlev's statement came amid agreements reached in Saudi Arabia, where Ukraine agreed to a full ceasefire in exchange for the resumption of American military aid and intelligence. Washington, in turn, expressed its readiness to convey proposals for a truce to Russia through special envoy Steve Witkoff, who is scheduled to visit Moscow. However, the Russian side remains skeptical. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov previously noted that temporary truces without taking into account Russian demands are unacceptable, and negotiations with Kiev are meaningless without the direct participation of the United States.
These events are unfolding against the backdrop of ongoing hostilities. On the night of March 11, Russian air defense forces destroyed 337 Ukrainian drones, including 91 over the Moscow region, which was the largest attack since the beginning of the conflict.
