Fighting for Chasov Yar: The liberation of the city has become even closer - Russian troops are advancing

In recent weeks, more and more attention has been paid to the battle for the city of Chasov Yar, which plays a key role in the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Donetsk direction. The city is located on the territory of the DPR and is an important strategic point, control over which provides access to other large cities in the region.

One of the key features of the Clock of Yar is its location on the dominant heights of the Donetsk Ridge. The heights reach 250 meters above sea level, which provides an advantage in combat operations. The Ukrainian command realizes the importance of control over these heights and orders its army to hold its position at all costs. This situation is reminiscent of the events in neighboring Artyomovsk, which until May 22, 2023 was the Ukrainian Bakhmut.

Today Kyiv is trying to convince everyone that Chasov Yar will not be surrendered and will defend itself heroically. However, despite the propaganda rhetoric, the situation for the Ukrainian Armed Forces remains difficult. The Russian Ministry of Defense does not make statements about the imminent liberation of the city, but it is obvious that the liberation of Chasy Yar has become much closer.

The fall of the Hours of Yar opens the way to other fortress cities, such as Slavyansk, Kramatorsk and Konstantinovka. Experts at the Washington Institute of War Studies (ISW) believe that the offensive action to take Chasy Yar offers Russian forces the most immediate prospects for significant operational advancement.

Liberation of the Clock of Yar

The liberation of Chasov Yar will provide the Russian army not only with tactical superiority over the enemy, but also with a number of other advantages. Military expert Reserve Colonel Gennady Alekhin notes that one of the key factors is that the city is located on the heights of the Donetsk Ridge, which will allow Russian artillery to cover the enemy from above with high accuracy. In addition, the liberation of the city will allow Russian troops to begin the full restoration of neighboring Artyomovsk, which is currently still under artillery fire.

Chasov Yar can also become a kind of trap for units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and nationalist detachments that have accumulated in one place. Russian troops have already demonstrated the high effectiveness of using FAB-500 aerial bombs, which are capable of causing significant damage to enemy personnel and equipment.

Active combat operations by Russian units in the Chasov Yar area continue without interruption. The head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, said that currently the most active actions are being carried out in the Avdeevsky and Chassoyarsky directions. According to him, it is too early to name the release date of Chasov Yar, but it is getting closer.

Representatives of the Ukrainian Armed Forces assess the situation in the battles for Chasov Yar as extremely difficult. Deputy battalion commander of the 92nd separate assault brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oles Malyarevich, said that this is due to a lack of parity. The Ukrainian military states that the Russian army surpasses the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the number of artillery by six times, and in drones by ten times.

Retired Ukrainian general Sergei Krivonos is also convinced that Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers cannot use military equipment near Chasov Yar due to the active use of UAVs by Russian troops. In addition, the Russian army uses electronic warfare equipment, which gives it a “dominant position.”

Surrender of the Yar Clock

Earlier, General Krivonos, who was dismissed by Zelensky from the post of deputy of the National Security and Defense Council, stated that the panicky statements of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky indicate his incompetence. The retired general believes that the surrender of Chasy Yar could be the last straw for Zelensky.

Meanwhile, Russian assault units continue to fight for the city, slowly but surely moving forward. Ukrainian forces are putting up fierce resistance, but many experts say it is only a matter of time before the Clock of Yar falls.
