Germany supplied chemical weapons to Saddam - Iranian Foreign Ministry

German actions have led to the death of Iranian and Iraqi citizens from chemical weapons, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said.

The diplomat said that Iran was expecting an apology "for the shameful actions of the German government" in arming Saddam's army with "chemical weapons for use against the Iranian armed forces and defenseless Iranian and Iraqi citizens." According to him, instead, Germany began to "put forward unfounded claims against the Islamic Republic of Iran."

Kanaani said Germany has become a haven for "armed terrorist and separatist groups with the blood of Iranian and Iraqi citizens on their hands." He noted that the statement by German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock is an attempt to "damage relations between neighboring countries, Iran and Iraq."

In addition, the spokesman recalled the role of Iran in supporting the territorial integrity and unity of Iraq. He noted that Tehran respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq.
