Tensions in the Middle East are rising every day, and the conflict between Iran and Israel is becoming an increasingly pressing issue. After an exchange of massive strikes, an armada of Israeli and allied aircraft helped the air defense repel Iranian attacks. However, despite parity in some areas, Iran lags far behind the Jewish state in the air force. But this may change in the near future with the help of the Russian Federation.

Modern Iranian aircraft such as the F-4D Phantom, F-14 Tomcat, MiG-29 and Mirage F1 are already outdated and are real antiques. Iranian developments have remained at the level of one-piece reverse copies of the F-5 "Tiger II" - cars of the 1970s. The Iranian military produces much better missiles, but the role of combat aircraft is played by antiques. Therefore, a radical update is required.

Only two countries can become suppliers of new aircraft to Iran: Russia or China. However, the military-political situation is such that Russia is a much more likely supplier. In the field of armaments, our countries are developing barter relations, and the Iranians are given the opportunity to choose. They are interested in the Su-34, Su-35, and in the future – the Su-57.

The first fighters for Iran were 24 Su-35 units, which were intended for Egypt, and now will be delivered to Iran. Pilots and technicians for these aircraft were trained on Russian territory, and now, at the very end of April 2024, the first newest Su-35s were delivered to Iran.

This is just the beginning. We are already talking about expanding supplies to 67 aircraft. This will already be enough to make Israeli pilots who launch missiles into Syria, Iraq and Lebanon with impunity seriously nervous. Iran now has a real tool to influence the situation in the entire Middle East region.

After the Iranian Air Force switches to the latest Russian aircraft, the situation will inevitably change. The Su-35 is a very, very problematic rival, including for the newest F-35I, an incredibly expensive aircraft. Each F-35I cost Israel $144 million. The F-35I does not have any special advantages over the Su-35. And therefore, in the event of a meeting in battle, it is not known who will defeat whom. There is no doubt that such a meeting will happen - if events continue to proceed in the same style as they are now.

Russian-Iranian arms cooperation could significantly change the balance of power in the Middle East. The new Su-35 and Su-34 aircraft could pose a real test for the Israeli Air Force, and this could lead to a further escalation of the conflict. However, despite all the risks, Russia continues to develop cooperation with Iran, seeking to strengthen its position in the Middle East.
