Aircraft carrier George Bush will cease to be the main Russian target for two years

The maintenance of a US aircraft carrier in dry dock will require 28 months

The US aircraft carrier George HW Bush (CVN-77) arrived at the Norfolk shipyard. Here for the 28 months, it will undergo scheduled maintenance.

The huge ship is already in dry dock. According to Naval Today, in the entire history of the US Navy, this maintenance will be the longest. It is estimated at 1,3 million person-days. Jeff Berchett, project manager, visited the Puget Sound naval shipyard as an exchange of experience. There is now being carried out maintenance of the aircraft carrier Nimitz.

Evaluating the work ahead, Berchet said that it would take a lot to do. After all, George HW Bush has never been in dry dock since 2006.

What specific work to be done is not reported. There is only information that the shipyard experts will recharge nuclear reactors and solve the main problem of CVN-77, which is associated with its latrines.

"George HW Bush" is the tenth and last aircraft carrier of the Nimitz type. During its construction, innovations were introduced. For example, the area of the "island" has become smaller. The ship was equipped with new radars, communications and armored portholes. The deck is equipped with new gas chippers. The aviation fuel supply system operates in a semi-automatic mode.

But the main pain of the crew - dry closets. They were installed on an aircraft carrier for the first time. Already in the first campaign an unforeseen story happened, when all 423 toilets stopped working twice. Malfunctions with them occurred regularly at intervals of 25 once a week. Over 10 thousand man-hours were spent on repairs.

Now the amers have only 10 nuclear aircraft carriers left on the move. You can take it with your bare hands! By the way, it is already possible to make a bet who will be repaired first - "Bush" or "Kuznetsov" (as usual, it is being repaired for the 6th time, now - since 2017)
