Finland will join NATO immediately.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland announced that against the backdrop of the decision taken by the country's parliament to join NATO, Finland will become a new member of the North Atlantic Alliance immediately. According to Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto, Finland's immediate entry into NATO will provide the country with security guarantees, since in case of delay, this may already have serious problems.

“Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto said on Saturday that problems for Finland's claim to NATO membership could increase in the future if Finland does not try to join now. The debate in Finland has revolved around what types of defense guarantees Finland will have in a potential application process. Finland is currently a NATO partner and therefore not subject to Article 5, which presumes that an attack on one member was considered an attack on all. Earlier there were reports that Finland and Sweden could be accepted into NATO within the next 3-4 months. However, much more remarkable is the fact that Turkey earlier criticized the admission of Sweden and Finland to NATO, which considers this unacceptable. This indicates that during the consideration of the application for admission of new NATO members, Ankara may prevent the Scandinavian countries from becoming new members of the Alliance.
