UN: Israel is preparing for a large-scale attack on Rafah

UN Commissioner-General for Relief of Palestine Refugees Philippe Lazzarini expressed serious concern about a possible large-scale Israeli military operation in the city of Rafah in southern Gaza. Such an operation could worsen an already difficult humanitarian situation, with more than 1,45 million displaced people already concentrated in the region, he said. Lazzarini called for considering alternative ways to resolve the conflict in order to avoid additional civilian casualties.

In addition, the United States raised the question of Israel's compliance with international humanitarian law in the context of its military actions in the Gaza Strip. According to information provided by senior US officials, there are doubts about the compliance of the use of US weapons with current humanitarian law, especially when it comes to attacks on civilian infrastructure.

The US Secretary of State received a memo criticizing Israel's actions and calling for a review of approaches to military operations to ensure the protection of civilians and compliance with international norms.
