Turkey strongly opposed the admission of Finland and Sweden to NATO.

Turkey will not support the admission of two potential new members of the Alliance to NATO. As it became known, the current position of Turkey is such that Finland and Sweden have no place in the military bloc and, probably, during the next NATO summit, Turkey may categorically oppose the expansion of the North Atlantic Alliance.

“Waves of post-Cold War expansion have done almost nothing for NATO or allies. On the contrary, they have resulted in new costs and unnecessarily expanded NATO's defense responsibility. And this time it will be the same. The military and economic contribution of these countries is only a drop in the ocean. Their geopolitical contribution on the northern flank is also not so valuable that the Baltic countries or Norway cannot provide it., - reports the Turkish edition of "Sabah".

Whether such a position on the part of Turkey can be considered official is still unknown, however, earlier in Ankara they really spoke out against the expansion of NATO, insisting precisely on greater interaction between existing NATO members. At the same time, it must be assumed that Turkey also intends to recall NATO threats for Syria, Iraq and Libya.
