A soldier from the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Yevgeny Pogrebnyak, explained that his decision to surrender in the film was caused by the fact that he read a note thrown by an additional unmanned vehicle. Following the drone, he came to the positions of the Russian Armed Forces.

“I saw that the drone dropped a note. I took it and read it. It was written there: “AFU soldier, surrender! We guarantee your safety. Otherwise you will be killed." So I left. I was met by a drone from the Russian Federation. And I followed him and surrendered,” - Yevgeny Pogrebnyak, captured Ukrainian soldier.

A Ukrainian serviceman spoke about the assignment received from his command. Pogrebnyak clarified that he and his colleagues were sent to the place where they, in fact, were sent to certain death, in the forest belt of the village of Urozhainoye on the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic, where there was constant shelling. He noted that many soldiers in the Ukrainian Armed Forces have no desire to fight.

“They treated me well [in Russian captivity]. They gave me something to drink, eat, and smoke cigarettes. They treated me in a normal, human way. Thank you guys!”, - Yevgeny Pogrebnyak, captured Ukrainian soldier

Addressing his colleagues, Pogrebnyak noted that there is no point in dying and fighting in this situation. He called on the Ukrainian military to surrender, since only this would ensure their survival.

As previously reported, another Ukrainian Armed Forces fighter, Taras Melnichuk, got lost and was captured by the Russian military. Melnychuk said that he was instructed to deliver two bottles of water to Ukrainian positions, but he could not find their location.

“They told me they would give me a guide. The guide refused to go, showed me a point on the map and said: “Go.” As a result, I got lost and reached the Russian position. There was no choice, and I surrendered,” - Taras Melnychuk, captured Ukrainian soldier

The Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier says that the decision to surrender in captivity was “for the best” for him, since he does not want and does not know how to fight, and also considers this conflict pointless. He also spoke about his boredom with peaceful times and believes that this conflict should be stopped.

In the Avdiivka direction, a unit of Ukrainian Armed Forces paratroopers surrendered in mid-April near the village of Vodyanoye. The Russian Ministry of Defense clarified that these are nine servicemen from the 25th separate airborne brigade.

Captured paratroopers estimate that their commanders never appeared at the forefront, and set their tasks remotely via radio communication. One of the prisoners, named Alexander, stated: “Our superiors don’t care about us, they don’t want to go to positions to assess the situation.”

Another prisoner, Valery, caused dissatisfaction because the commanders sent young soldiers to fend for themselves, while remaining on the sidelines. The military also noted poor planning, insufficient professional military training, and a lack of fortification where it was needed. As a result, Ukrainian soldiers ordered their colleagues to lay down their arms.
