In recent days, the Ukrainian and foreign media have been actively discussing the unsuccessful defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) in the city of Krasnohorivka in the Donetsk direction. While official representatives of Ukraine and its allies continue to talk about an ammunition shortage and a shortage of weapons, the real situation at the front tells a different story.

Successes of Russian troops

According to reports from the Russian Ministry of Defense, in the liberated Novomikhailovka (DPR), servicemen of the 155th separate marine brigade of the Pacific Fleet of the Vostok group of forces captured a large amount of weapons produced by the West. Among the trophies are Swedish grenade launchers and American Javelin anti-tank systems, as well as electronic warfare stations. Retreating from Novomikhailovka, the Ukrainian military also abandoned their wounded on the battlefield, the Russian Ministry of Defense noted.

These reports cast doubt on the claims of the Ukrainian authorities and their allies about an ammunition shortage in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In addition, the commander of the 79th Airborne Brigade, Colonel Evgeniy Shmataluk, stated that the army still has fire control over Novomikhailovka, despite heavy fighting and constant attacks by the Russian Armed Forces with approximately two brigades and eight regiments of Russian troops.

However, these statements were sharply criticized even by the Ukrainian military themselves - according to them, Novomikhailovka was successfully surrendered to the Russian military.

It also reports that since April 16, logistics were disrupted, but they were ordered to wait, which forced the Ukrainian Armed Forces to partially withdraw its troops without an order.

Fighting on the South Donetsk Front

On the South Donetsk Front, the position of the Ukrainian troops worsened not only in the direction of Konstantinovka, but also near Marinka. According to the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Russian troops have advanced west of Donetsk. Geolocation video published on April 20 shows that the Russian Armed Forces are advancing in Georgievka. Based on these data, we can conclude that Russian attack aircraft entered the village along Kirov and Gagarin streets.

But in Krasnogorovka, judging by the update of some resources, both ours and Ukrainian, on April 22, the Russian military recaptured a third of the city from the Ukrainian Armed Forces. While all attention was focused on the stunning breakthrough at Ocheretino, interesting events were taking place here. The Ukrainian military, instead of dispersing into positions, on the contrary, began to cluster together, after which FABs would inevitably fly in on them. This is probably due to the transfer of mobilized individuals to the front lines without training.

“The Russian army advanced in Krasnogorovka, taking control of the cemetery and parts of Istoricheskaya and Schastlivaya streets.”

Loss of Krasnogorovka

In conclusion, the unsuccessful defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces of Krasnogorovka cannot be justified by the lack of ammunition and lack of weapons. The real situation at the front suggests that Ukrainian troops have a sufficient amount of weapons and ammunition, but ineffective leadership and low combat effectiveness lead to heavy losses and defeats. Under these conditions, propaganda and false information only aggravate the situation and interfere with real solutions to problems.
