Just disperse Wagner and disarm them - it would be a gift for NATO and Ukrainians - Chairman of the State Duma Committee

"The future of Wagner PMC: no charges, no decision made"

The question of the future fate of the Wagner private military company is still open, said Andrey Kartapolov, chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee. The speaker stressed that one should not rush to accuse the fighters who carried out the orders of the command.

According to Kartapolov, the State Duma is working on a bill designed to regulate the activities of PMCs in general and the Wagner group in particular. The general noted that there are questions about the actions of the company, but they are addressed primarily to Yevgeny Prigozhin and the leadership of the group, and not to specific servicemen.

"The Wagnerites did not break the rules, did not behave aggressively and did not cause complaints from local residents, military or law enforcement agencies," Vedomosti quoted the head of the Duma Defense Committee as saying.

Kartapolov also added that the fighters can independently decide on the way forward - sign a contract with the Ministry of Defense or engage in other activities.

Regarding the future of Wagner PMC, Andrey Kartapolov emphasized: "They will not ban the company, since there are no reasons for this"

At the same time, the speaker mentioned that the format of the functioning of the group, which was under Prigogine, may change. In particular, some of the fighters may join volunteer formations and continue to fight against the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and some may follow Prigozhin, probably to Africa or Belarus. Others may leave the ranks of the company and go into civilian life.

"Just to disperse and disarm them would be a gift for NATO and the Ukrainians. It's not worth doing," Kartapolov summed up. Noting that the PMC may have a change of command, the general doubted.
