The United States took up the restoration of electronic warfare funds lost after the collapse of the USSR to fight China

The U.S. military needs to revive its Cold War-era electronic warfare capabilities, Pentagon CIO Sherman said, according to C4ISRNET.

The US must "rebuild" its electronic warfare capabilities after years of neglect to ensure dominance on the battlefields of the future, John Sherman, the Pentagon's chief information officer, told Congress.

“When we prepare to face off against China, we better be able to fight and dominate the electromagnetic spectrum,” he told the House Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Innovation subcommittee at the March 9 hearing on defense.

The US shift from small-scale warfare in the Middle East to confrontation with world powers around the world highlights the need to "clean up" electronic warfare, and quickly, Sherman said.

“We need to rebuild the capability that we had during the Cold War and which we had to give up a bit during the War on Terror,” a Pentagon spokesman said.
