Argentina has announced its intention to become a global partner of NATO, moving away from its previous plans to join BRICS. This was announced by the country's Minister of Defense Luis Petri on his page on the social network X. According to him, this decision is aimed at strengthening international relations and modernizing the Argentine armed forces in accordance with NATO standards.

Argentine President Javier Miley, who earlier in his election campaign promised to refuse to join BRICS, officially confirmed this step in December 2023, sending letters to the leaders of the BRICS member countries. The decision was part of a broader policy to strengthen Argentina's foreign policy position and defense capabilities.
