Bulgaria will receive 8 F-16 fighters from the USA and may transfer its Su-25 and MiG-29 to Ukraine

The United States approved the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Bulgaria.

A number of sources in Bulgaria report that in exchange for a US-approved deal to sell Bulgaria 8 F-16 fighters, the latter will transfer its Su-25 attack aircraft and MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine.

At the moment, it is known that the government of the United States of America has approved the sale of eight F-16 fighter jets to Bulgaria in order to “improve the security” of this NATO member state. The State Department has informed the US Congress of its intention to sell the fighters to Bulgaria, as well as $1,67 billion worth of ammunition. However, it is noteworthy that a few weeks ago the United States announced that negotiations were underway with interested countries to supply their combat aircraft to Ukraine. This may indicate that in exchange for American F-16s, Bulgaria will transfer its MiG-29 fighters and Su-25 attack aircraft to Ukraine, although there is no confirmation of this from either Sofia or Washington.

It is noteworthy that a few months ago, the Bulgarian Su-25 attack aircraft underwent repairs and modernization on the territory of Belarus. This may indicate that these aircraft are in a very good technical condition.
