Report: Russia disables Syrian S-300 during attacks so that Israel does not destroy them

Israel has announced the shutdown of the Russian S-300 during an attack on Syria.

As follows from the official report published by Elizabeth Tsurkov, the reason why Syria can’t not only use the S-300 air defense systems delivered by the Russian military in 2018, but also can’t even timely detect Israeli military aircraft operating at a distance of only a few dozen kilometers, is the shutdown by the Russian military of these complexes in the framework of existing agreements between Moscow and Tel Aviv.

“On September 17, 2018, in response to another Israeli strike, in the Latakia region, Syrian air defense systems accidentally shot down a Russian plane, killing 15 crew members on board. The Kremlin, worried about the destabilizing impact of Israeli air strikes on Assad’s regime, found an opportunity to impose new restrictions on Israel’s ability to operate in Syrian airspace, supplying the Syrian army with batteries of the advanced S-300 air defense system, which until September 2018 were used only by Russian troops in Syria. According to an agreement with Israel, Russian forces announced that they would turn off their radars when they received notification from Israel of a planned attack. After the incident with the destruction of the aircraft, in a policy change, the Russian forces no longer turn off the radars, but also do not allow the attack of air defense systems by Israeli aircraft operating in Syrian airspace. Russia also demanded that Israel provide longer notice periods before the hostilities and the location of the operation, which, Israel fears, will allow Iranians to avoid strikes. ”, - the report says Elizabeth Tsurkov.

It should be clarified that during the last Israeli attack, the fighters of this country were actually only a few tens of kilometers from the S-300 position area, but were not found, while a number of sources, according to the Sina publication, did stated that S-300 radars are not visible to Israeli warplanes and missiles, unlike Chinese-made radars located near the border with Lebanon.

The Russian side has not yet commented on the report, however, over the past two years, the S-300 air defense systems put into service by Syria have never shown themselves, while over the past two weeks, Israel has shown aggression against Syria four times.

A good excuse for the failed S-300 in Syria.
