North Korea mines roads on the border with South Korea and moves troops

North Korea has taken a number of drastic measures to strengthen its border with the south, including mining key roads previously used for cross-border cooperation and humanitarian projects, according to recent reports from South Korea. The moves follow Pyongyang's decision to escalate relations with South Korea and abandon its earlier policy of reconciliation.

One of the mined roads is the path in Cheorwon, where joint excavations of the remains of soldiers killed during the Korean War were previously carried out. The Gyeongwi Road and Donghae Road, connecting the cities of Paju and Kaesong, were also lined with mines. These roads were built during a period of improving relations between the two Koreas, but have since been discontinued due to heightened tensions.

Kim Jong Un, North Korea's leader, said in December that the unification push should be reconsidered, calling for the two Koreas to be treated as hostile states. In January, he ordered strict measures to close all channels of communication along the border, including rail and road routes.

Avia.pro journalists earlier Reported that the DPRK condemned the US actions to supply ATACMS missiles to Ukraine.
