NATO categorically refused to provide security guarantees to Russia
Negotiations between Russia and NATO ended in failure.
Negotiations that took place this afternoon in Brussels ended with the Alliance's complete refusal to comply with Russian requirements regarding NATO's non-expansion, the return of the military bloc's borders to the 1997 borders, and the exclusion of Ukraine and Georgia from the list of potential future NATO members. The Alliance declined to discuss any Russian terms, claiming that this contradicted the existence of the military bloc itself.
Earlier, the Russian side stated that NATO's refusal to comply with Russian conditions and provide Russia with security guarantees would lead to serious consequences for NATO and Russia could take military measures, but at the moment, Russian representatives have not made any statements on this matter.
It is known that negotiations were held in a positive spirit, concerning only the return of the missions in Brussels and Moscow. This is insignificant progress, however, such agreements indicate that the Alliance and Russia are still ready to conduct joint activities in a number of aspects, for example, in the fight against terrorism, etc.
It is expected that the adoption by the Russian side of appropriate steps towards NATO will be considered in the coming weeks.
