Politico: Washington approved the transfer of long-range guided munitions to Ukraine

Ukraine will receive American long-range guided munitions.

Washington has decided to provide Ukraine with long-range guided munitions. This, according to preliminary data, is about Excalibur ammunition, capable of delivering strikes at ranges over 70 kilometers using artillery mounts. Previously, similar ammunition, but of a shorter range, was transferred to Ukraine by Canada.

Earlier it became known that the United States was considering the possibility of transferring Excalibur corrected ammunition to Ukraine, however, the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not have a sufficient number of artillery mounts capable of delivering strikes with such projectiles, and therefore the supply of these projectiles begins only now. It is not specified exactly how much Excalibur ammunition will be sent to Ukraine, however, due to the range of the latter, the Armed Forces of Ukraine can strike with artillery in very remote areas, and, unlike the missiles produced by the Himars MLRS, it will be impossible to intercept the corrected ammunition by means of air defense.

In turn, experts note that the supply of artillery corrected ammunition instead of missiles for the Himars MLRS indicates that the United States has problems with the availability of "free" missiles for Ukraine, especially considering the fact that most of them were destroyed by the Russian military on the territory of Ukraine.
