The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation intends to completely renew the fleet of Tu-160 supersonic missile-carrying bombers, for which it is planned to purchase modernized versions of Tu-160M2 aircraft, the distinctive features of which are highly efficient engines and replaced electronic equipment. Moreover, the possibility of applying a special coating to the fuselage of Tu-160 strategic bombers, which can reduce the visibility of these aircraft for radar equipment, is currently being worked out, which will significantly increase their effectiveness.

According to preliminary data, as a new coating, it is proposed to use a composite material based on gadolinium and nickel, which is capable of absorbing about 25% of radar waves, but given the secrecy of this project, no official comments from the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has arrived.
