T-90 in Syria. What did the first combat use of a Russian tank show in comparison with its competitors?

The first use of T-90 tanks showed their advantages and disadvantages in the Syrian conflict.

Despite the fact that the T-90 tank began to be produced in 1992, and its development was carried out at all during the Soviet era, this Russian combat vehicle received its first use only in Syria, which made it possible for the first time to reveal the potential of the tank, and made it possible to call his one of the best armored fighting vehicles in the world.

T-90 tanks were first used in battles near the Syrian city of Aleppo, while they were able to prove themselves in an excellent way, since most of the means of fighting tanks that were in service with militants could not properly recommend themselves - an armored vehicle received light damage and could well continue the fight.

Starting in 2016, tanks of the Russian Armed Forces began to arrive in Syria, which were also actively used to liberate Syria from the terrorists of the "Islamic State" (a terrorist group banned on the territory of the Russian Federation - ed.).

It was thanks to the presence of T-90 tanks in service with the Syrian army that it was possible to quickly liberate the territories occupied by terrorists, which is definitely an excellent demonstration of the power of these combat vehicles.

In the recent conflict between Syria and Turkey, T-90 tanks were also able to demonstrate high efficiency, in particular, these unique combat vehicles successfully dealt with heavier Leopard tanks, in connection with which Damascus expressed interest in acquiring even more T- 90.

As for another competitor of the Russian T-90 - the American tank "Abrams", according to some reports, the losses of the latter in Syria and Iraq, only during the fight against terrorists of the "Islamic State", turned out to be almost 30% more, in comparison with tanks T-90.

It was the successful use of T-90 tanks that forced Iraq to conclude a contract with Russia for the supply of these combat vehicles to the Iraqi army, and as part of the parade dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the armed forces of this country, Russian tanks made a real sensation.

One of the drawbacks of the Russian T-90 tanks is the relatively weak armor, when modern anti-tank weapons are used against them, however, given the appearance of modernized combat vehicles, it is likely that now the T-90 tanks are much more ready for full-scale battles with the enemy.
