Ukraine to be forced to compromise after counteroffensive - Wall Street Journal

William Galston, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, writes about this in a column for the Wall Street Journal.

And this, according to the expert, will not necessarily coincide with the stated goals of Vladimir Zelensky - about entering the 1991 borders.

"By the end of the year, support for a ceasefire as a prelude to negotiations will become too strong to resist, even if some Eastern European allies question the wisdom of this course," writes Galston.

In his opinion, "this harsh reality will be a bitter pill for the majority of Ukrainians," who have been convinced that the goal of liberating all territories is achievable.

He attributes this to the US electoral cycle, declining support for Ukraine among Republicans, and Trump's possible return to the White House.

“If Mr. Zelenskiy is not ready to put the future of his country at the whim of American voters, he should seriously consider making the best deal he can get from his allies while support remains strong,” the expert concludes.

It is with this that the expert connects the preparation by NATO of an agreement on security guarantees.
