Today, an unmanned aerial vehicle was shot down over the territory of Mordovia, which was the second attempt to attack targets in the region over the past week. Local residents reported this, and then the information was confirmed by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Details about the purpose of the drone attack have not been specified, but one of the largest over-the-horizon radar stations, Container, is located on the territory of Mordovia. This station is capable of monitoring airspace at a distance of several thousand kilometers, which makes it a potential target for attack.

The Container radar with over-the-horizon detection, developed by NIIDAR Research and Production Company (which is part of RTI JSC), is intended for ultra-long-range reconnaissance of airspace. These stations operate on the principle of reflection of radio waves from the Earth's ionosphere.
