The Pentagon requires new forces to contain Russia.

As follows from the statement of the head of the European command of the US Armed Forces, General Curtis Scaparrotti, the US Armed Forces require additional air and naval forces to contain Russia. This is required by the European Defense Initiative. The general said that the command had begun measures to create a budget base that would ensure the rapid deployment of fourth and fifth generation combat aircraft, as well as the required number of bombers.

Scaparotti emphasizes that the armed forces require additional maritime capabilities. It will increase the lethality of existing weapons at sea, which will ensure a high level of confrontation with Russia's potential.

The general also noted that the command continues to work closely with the Ministry of Defense in order to increase the rotational presence of ships with missiles on board, as well as aircraft carrier groups and submarines. At the same time, he clarifies that this will become a “lethal combat force”, which will allow us to contain the enemy and “resist the growing threats in the underwater sphere”.

Speaking about the budget for 2019 year, Scaparotti believes that the architecture of air defense and missile defense in Europe should be expanded. In addition, it is required to provide new opportunities in intelligence.

It is known that Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on Russia's suspension of the INF Treaty. As follows from the document, the suspension was made due to violations of the treaty obligations by the United States.

Much earlier, US President Donald Trump announced that 2 February begins the procedure for America’s exit from the INF range. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo clarified that the document will be terminated if the Russian side does not return to compliance with the contract within six months.
