Russian military are building all-weather airfields in the Arctic.

In recent years, the Russian military reconstructed nineteen airfields located in the Arctic. At the same time, construction of 545 objects was completed in the Arctic latitudes. Their total area exceeds 710 thousand square meters.

According to the Internet portal Slovo i delo, which refers to a source in the Ministry of Defense, the construction of aerodromes in the Arctic is currently ongoing. Their feature is the ability to work in any weather.

Such airfields are built on islands: Kotelny (the Novosibirsk Islands archipelago) and Alexandra Land (Franz Josef Land archipelago).

As for other objects, in the Arctic latitudes currently construction work is being carried out on more than 3,5 thousands of buildings and structures. The main task to be accomplished is to create the infrastructure, forces and means of nuclear deterrence.
