Japan to place Aegis missile defense systems on the border with Russia

Japan will deploy Aegis missile defense systems on its territory that violate the terms of the INF Treaty.

Against the background of the fact that Japan almost completely failed negotiations with Russia on the conclusion of a peace treaty, the authorities of this country decided to place on their territory, at a relatively small distance from the Russian border, American Aegis missile defense systems, which violate the Treaty on the Elimination of Medium and short range.

At the moment, it is already known that Russia has made claims against Japan, stressing that the appearance of missiles that violate the INF Treaty on the border of the Russian Federation is unacceptable, but Japan stressed that they do not notice any problems.

"The deployment of American Aegis missile defense systems on our territory cannot be considered a violation of the treaty on the elimination of intermediate and shorter-range missiles, if only for the reason that Japan is not a party to it."- said the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

At the moment, it is known that the American Aegis missile defense systems will be deployed in the prefectures of Yamaguchi (about 900 kilometers from the Russian border - ed.) And Akita (about 600 kilometers from the Russian border - ed.).

Experts do not exclude that in response to Japan's actions, Russia may also place its cruise and ballistic missiles in comparative proximity to the Japanese border, not to mention the strengthening of its military presence on the islands, which Japan considers controversial.
