The United States announced the Sarmat ICBM and the Avangard complex falling under START-3

The United States made a statement about the new Russian missile systems "Sarmat" and "Avangard". The Americans argue that these complexes fall under the Treaty on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms (START). On such a withdrawal of the US State Department announced the US Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Andrea Thompson.

From her words it follows that some new Russian systems, as suggested by the analysis of official reports in the Russian media, can be deployed before February of the 2021 year, that is, before the expiration of the term of the New START Treaty (START-3). According to the State Department, the Sarmat (heavy intercontinental ballistic missile) and Avangard (hypersonic system) should be recognized as existing types falling under the Treaty.

At the same time, Thompson assures that in the USA there are no development of medium-range and shorter-range nuclear missiles. Speech in the United States is only about the development of its own ground-based intermediate range missile system with non-nuclear equipment. At the same time, as the Deputy Secretary of State stressed, after Washington agrees on a new START with Moscow, in the States "they will immediately stop this work."

America has accused Russia of violating START III since 3. In 2014, information appeared that the United States was trying to bring new Russian developments under the Treaty. President Trump signed a corresponding document on this matter. It names: the Sarmat ICBM, the Kh-2018 nuclear missile, the Poseidon drone and the Avangard long-range hypersonic system.
