Serial production of the Russian aircraft MS-21 was again postponed

Due to Western sanctions, the release of the Russian MS-21 airliner has been postponed again.

The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov said that due to the sanctions imposed by the West at the end of last year, the serial production of the domestic MS-21 aircraft is being postponed again. At the moment, it is known that we are talking about a period of at least one year, however, taking into account the new EU and US sanctions, the release of a passenger plane may be postponed to a later date.

“Our main problem is the composite materials for the wing, which we could not manufacture. Previously, we were banned from the supply of raw materials that we received from one of the companies in the United States. To get out of this situation, it was decided to create a domestic analogue. As a result of joint work with Rosatom and the institutes of the Academy of Sciences, this raw material was created. Today the wing for the MC-21 is undergoing certification tests. I hope that by the end of this year we will complete them, and in 2022 we will start mass production of the machine. "- said Chemezov.

It should be noted that earlier Chemezov announced the readiness of Russian aircraft manufacturers to produce up to 100 MS-21 passenger airliners per year, however, this is not the first time that the production of aircraft has been postponed - initially the serial production of these aircraft was scheduled for 2017, however, subsequently, was constantly postponed, which made some foreign customers nervous, although there is no talk of breaking existing contracts so far.
