Fighter F-35

The United States did not have support in NATO to exclude Turkey from the F-35 program

The US has no support from the participants of the program F-35 in the question of the deprivation of Turkey fighters

The United States' decision to stop training Turkish pilots on the F-35 program because of Ankara's plan to acquire Russian S-400 Triumph air defense systems was not supported by other participants in the Joint Strike Fighter program, which funded the development of a rather expensive fifth generation fighter. These words were voiced in the statement of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

The head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry stressed that neither these actions of Washington, nor anything else on its part, is capable of influencing Ankara's decision. Turkey will receive Russian air defense systems on time.

Cavusoglu on this issue said the following:

"Whatever the sanctions, whatever statements come from the United States, we purchased C-400 and are now talking about when they will be delivered."

The minister also recalled that Ankara had decided to purchase the S-400 from Russia, in particular, because NATO's capabilities are capable, at best, of protecting 30 percent of Turkey's airspace. This is too little.

The training of Turkish pilots was stopped by the Pentagon in early June, immediately after Ankara did not respond to Washington’s ultimatum, which demanded that the contract for the purchase of Russian air defense systems be abandoned. If there is no failure, Turkey will not receive the fifth-generation fighter F-35.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said in his repeated statements that the purchase of the S-400 is a deal. In the first half of July, strictly according to the schedule, deliveries of Russian air defense systems will begin.

The contract between Russia and Turkey was signed in December 2017 of the year. The United States is putting pressure on Turkey, trying to get Ankara to give up the deal. At the same time, Washington argues that the C-400 is not compatible with NATO systems, and the Russian air defense system is a threat to the secrecy of F-35. Americans argue that C-400 can reveal the weaknesses of the newest aircraft.
