F-15 fighters will equip with laser weapons

Lockheed Martin will equip its fighters with laser weapons.

According to the information available to Avia.pro news agency, by 2021, the American company Lockheed Martin intends to equip F-15 fighters with laser turrets, which allow to destroy enemy equipment with high accuracy. By 2020, a number of tests are planned for a new weapon system, however, specialists are rather skeptical of this decision, believing that the efficiency of using energy weapons will be low because of high energy costs, besides, any overloads and vibrations can lead to multimillion armament from building.

Among other things, it is important to take into account that the use of laser weapons on airplanes will lead to a steady increase in their cost, so that the popularity of fighters will significantly decrease.

It has already been theoretically calculated that to destroy an enemy aircraft, a laser power of at least 100-150 kW is needed. The atmosphere very strongly "dissipates" the efficiency of the laser, and therefore the power is already almost two hundred kW. There are a lot of questions ... although if the dimensions, weight, and the cooling system allow all this to be "integrated" at f 15, then why not. Another question is how the heavy 15 will fly ... science is not yet in the know ... and the enemy, unfortunately for the creators of the laser, can interfere with the laser targeting system ...
