Rostec announced the ability of the BMP-3 to penetrate the armor of the Abrams and Leopard 2 tanks.
Against the backdrop of the supply of Leopard 2, Challenger 2 and M1A2 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, Rostec announced that these tanks would not pose a significant threat, since Russian BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles would be able to cope with them, which turned out to be a huge surprise.
Russian experts note that in this case, the main stake will be placed not on the main and auxiliary guns of the Russian infantry fighting vehicle, but on a guided anti-tank missile, which is said to be capable of penetrating the armor of tanks of NATO countries.
“The BMP has an anti-tank guided missile and, thanks to the guided weapon system, it is possible to effectively fight, including with the main tanks of NATO countries”, - reported in Rostec.
An anti-tank missile is indeed capable of hitting heavy tanks such as Abrams, Leopard 2 and Challenger 2. However, the limited launch range of such a missile can become a serious problem, since Western tanks are able to effectively hit targets at distances of the order of 8-8,5 kilometers, and the flight range anti-tank missile is limited to a distance of 5,5 kilometers.
