Details on the construction of a Russian air base in Venezuela became known.

It became known whether a Russian military airbase would appear in Venezuela.

Answering the question about the possible deployment of the Russian military base in Venezuela, the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the country in the Russian Federation, Charles Raphael Faria Tortosa, during a briefing at the Russian Foreign Ministry 21 in May, said that this issue was not discussed by Moscow and Caracas.

The ambassador stressed that “no one anywhere has ever spoken to either our or the Russian government about the deployment of such a base.” Further, Tortosa advised journalists to ask the Americans about the number of military bases they had created all over the world. At the same time, he recalled that the number of such objects exceeds 800.

Mass protests against President Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela began on January 21, that is, shortly after he was sworn in. Juan Guaido, who heads the opposition-controlled National Assembly, has declared himself as interim president. The United States of America and several other countries announced the recognition of Guaido as the head of state. Nicholas Maduro declared him a US puppet. Russia, China, Turkey and a number of other countries supported Maduro as a legitimate president.

In Moscow, the “presidential status” of Guaydo was called non-existent. Russia repeatedly warned the States against military intervention in the internal affairs of Venezuela. So, according to the statement of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov, such intervention will be a disaster. Ryabkov is sure that Washington’s statements and actions towards Caracas are fueling a crisis in Venezuela.
