France adapts Ukrainian F-16s to use AASM bombs

France is taking steps to adapt its AASM guided bombs for use on F-16 fighter jets, which could be transferred to Ukraine by NATO allies. This statement was made by French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu. It is clarified that the French military has already successfully adapted these bombs for Soviet aircraft, and is now working on their compatibility with the F-16.

The minister also announced plans to significantly increase the production of AASM bombs: from 600 units in 2024 to 1,2 thousand in 2025. The announcement coincided with President Emmanuel Macron's decision to supply additional SCALP missiles to Ukraine and create an "artillery coalition" aimed at supporting Kyiv with arms and ammunition.

France, in addition to promising to supply Ukraine with 50 AASM aerial bombs per month during 2024, also announced financing for the delivery of additional Caesar self-propelled artillery systems. Gabriel Attal, the French Prime Minister, confirmed plans to increase the production of artillery shells to 3 thousand per month for Ukraine and the supply of 600 AASM bombs, as well as SCALP missiles.
