The newest Russian air defense system took up combat duty.

The domestic S-550 anti-aircraft missile system, the development of which became known just a few months ago, has successfully passed tests and has now taken up military duty. According to a TASS source, not only factory tests have been completed, but also state tests. Moreover, apparently, the tests were completed at the time of the appearance of data on the existence of this weapon.

“The S-550 air defense system has successfully completed state tests. The first S-550 brigade took up combat duty ", - a military source informs "TASS".

The source does not provide any technical characteristics of the latest anti-aircraft missile system. There is information that the S-550 air defense system is not much inferior to the S-500 Prometheus and S-400 Triumph systems, since it is capable of fighting aerodynamic and ballistic targets, including those flying at hypersonic speeds, as well as various kind of cosmic goals.

Despite the absence of any official statements from the RF Ministry of Defense, experts believe that the S-550 systems were adopted just to cover the S-500 Prometheus systems, which also provide ample opportunities to engage any air and space targets.
