Over the course of a day, the water level in the Tobol River near the city of Kurgan rose by almost 2,5 meters

Over the past 18 hours, the water level in the Tobol River near the city of Kurgan has risen to 734 centimeters, according to a local geoportal monitoring flood conditions. This is a significant increase since the previous measurement at 8:00 am on Sunday, when the level was only 491 centimeters.

The situation is aggravated by the volumes of water moving along the river. Governor of the Kurgan region Vadim Shumkov noted that more than 1,3 billion cubic meters of water flows along the Tobol River, which is twice the figure of the catastrophic flood of 1994. Then the water rose more than ten meters, causing significant destruction.

Due to the critical situation, regional authorities called on residents of dangerous areas to immediately evacuate. The head of the region emphasized that evacuation may soon become impossible due to flooding of roads. According to forecasts of the Ural Hydrometeorological Center, the rise of water in the river will continue until April 18, which will lead to flooding of coastal areas, floodplain lakes and oxbow lakes.

A regional emergency situation is already in effect in the Kurgan region. According to information from the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the region, in the zone of possible flooding there are 62 settlements, 4300 houses and 5550 household plots, as well as 600 summer cottages. 18 people were at risk.
