American sailors missing after Houthi attack on US fleet

Two Navy sailors went missing during an operation off the coast of Somalia on Thursday, according to US Central Command. Search and rescue operations are ongoing to find them, but there is no information on their whereabouts yet.

The statement from US Central Command did not provide details about what exactly the sailors were doing at the time of their disappearance. They are known to have served as part of the US 5th Fleet, whose ships are in the region and carry out a variety of missions.

Central Command expressed respect for the families of the missing and promised not to release additional information at this time.

The United States maintains a small military presence in Somalia, explaining this by the fight against the terrorist group Al-Shabab (banned in the Russian Federation - note by Avia.pro). However, on the Arabian Peninsula, opposite the coast of Somalia, lies Yemen, where the Houthis have carried out attacks. Together with Great Britain, the United States began to strike Houthi targets in Yemen. The Houthis, in response, are trying to fight back, and perhaps the disappearance of the American sailors is connected with an attack on a US Navy ship. The United States denied any attacks on the ship, however, at the moment this already raises serious questions.
