Mayer: American special forces provide support to the Armed Forces of Ukraine

American special forces provide support to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, but their operations are carried out exclusively outside Ukrainian territory. This statement was made by Christopher Mayer, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict. He emphasized that US President Joe Biden's decision on the absence of American troops in Ukraine also applies to special forces, which forced the Pentagon to look for alternative ways of cooperation with the Ukrainian military.

According to Mayer, despite the limitations, American special forces have been able to achieve significant results by providing assistance to colleagues from a distance. Representatives of US special forces, as confirmed by Mayer, were on the territory of Ukraine before the start of the special military operation, but specific details of their stay were not disclosed.

General Brian Fenton, who heads the US Special Operations Command, also noted in February 2024 the involvement of American special forces in the training of Ukrainian military personnel, clarifying that the training took place outside of Ukraine.
