Germany again refused to transfer Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine

The German parliament held a vote on the provision of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, proposed by the CDU/CSU bloc. As a result of the debate, the draft resolution did not find support among the majority of Bundestag deputies. Of the 690 deputies who voted for the resolution, 495 deputies spoke out, 190 were against it, and five abstained. These data were announced by the Chairman of the Bundestag during a broadcast on the official website of the parliament.

The Taurus KEPD 350/150 is a product of German-Swedish cooperation and is a long-range cruise missile capable of delivering precision strikes against highly protected targets. One of the key features of this missile is the ability to strike without the need for the carrier aircraft to enter the enemy's air defense coverage area.

This is already the second attempt by the CDU/CSU bloc to achieve parliamentary approval on the issue of transferring Taurus missiles to Ukraine. The previous vote in February also ended in failure. As an alternative, a draft document was adopted from factions of the ruling coalition (SPD, FDP, Greens), calling for the start of supplies of long-range weapons to Kiev for attacks on strategic targets deep in Russian territory, but without mentioning Taurus missiles.
