Deputy head of the North Caucasus Railway detained for theft of 600 million rubles

The Investigative Committee began an investigation against the deputy head of the North Caucasus Railway on charges of committing the crime of theft on an especially large scale.

The press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia announced the initiation of a criminal case against the deputy head of the North Caucasus Railway (SKZD) on suspicion of abuse of power, in accordance with Article 285 part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

According to RIA Novosti, the deputy head of the North Caucasus Railway was detained on suspicion of embezzling about 600 million rubles during the reconstruction of the Crimean junction.

In accordance with information from the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, on December 29, 2021, the accused, aware that construction and installation work at the facility "Reconstruction of the Crimean hub of the North Caucasus Railway. First stage" was not completed and the quality of the work performed did not meet the stated standards , which could lead to economic damage for JSC Russian Railways, for the purpose of his own benefit he signed an act of acceptance of completed construction work on the facility. At the time of the crime, the defendant held the position of chairman of the selection committee.

It is noted that the said act included deliberately false information about the completion of work on the specified facility.

The actions of this official led to a serious violation of the rights and legitimate interests of JSC Russian Railways. The point is that the accused transferred 600 million rubles to the bank account of the contractor.

The 31st railway track began temporary operation only in August last year after serious violations were discovered during its construction and their subsequent elimination using additional funds raised by Russian Railways.

A criminal case was opened for abuse of official powers, and the suspect was placed in a pre-trial detention center for two months. Konstantin Kryat, accused of abuse of power, will remain in custody until May 18. Official representatives of the North Caucasus Railways refused to comment on this incident, the agency reported.

Let us note that on the day of Kryat’s arrest, the former manager of the construction and installation trust, Viktor Kharchenko, who embezzled 34 million rubles, was also arrested.
