The Ovidiopol-2 space and radio reconnaissance complex was destroyed near Odessa.

On the night of March 8, near Odessa, one of the key facilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces was destroyed - the space and electronic reconnaissance complex known as Ovidiopol-2.

Originally known as the 8th radio center, the complex was built during Soviet times in the village of Akkarzha in the Ovidiopol region and was used by the KGB for radio interception and electronic warfare. The location of the facility made it possible to ensure control over the airwaves of Turkey and a large part of the Middle East, covering strategically important regions.

After the collapse of the USSR, the facility came under the jurisdiction of the Security Service of Ukraine, but over time lost its original significance. However, in 2020, it became known that a major overhaul had begun with the participation of Western partners, after which Ovidiopol-2 was modernized and received a new role in the Ukrainian defense system. The complex was reconfigured to control the airspace over Crimea and the southwestern territories of Ukraine, as well as over the Black Sea.

The destruction of Ovidiopol-2 was made possible thanks to the use of FAB-250M54 bombs with a universal planning and correction module dropped from Su-34 bombers. These bombs have high hit accuracy, which made it possible to effectively destroy a well-protected object.
